2018 [MI6]

Previously, in 2011’s Mission: Impossible C Ghost Protocol, IMF agent, Ethan Hunt played by Tom Cruise, visited the city of Dubai, where he famously scaled the Burj Khalifa in a daring stunt to save the world from nuclear catastrophe. Over a decade later, Mission: Impossible‘s crew and cast have returned to the UAE to film the seventh instalment of the franchise, Dead Reckoning Part One.

The trailer for the film, which aired on May 17th, shares a glimpse of the Abu Dhabi setting, as well as many others which are visited during the globe-trotting epic including Norway and the United Kingdom. The scenes set in the capital city of the UAE were reportedly filmed in 2021, where filming production spanned just under two weeks.

This may be the first time a film in the series was set in Abu Dhabi, however, for 2018’s Mission: Impossible C Fallout, the HALO jump sequence’s filming production was actually in the city as well, even though it was set in France. The Abu Dhabi Film Commissioner, Hans Fraikin released a statement on the Abu Dhabi scenes where he stated that ‘The Mission Impossible films are renowned for the thrilling set-pieces, intricate plots and high-octane stunts, so we are delighted that Abu Dhabi is once again being showcased as a location where such intricate, ground-breaking movie making can come to life.”
